Israel Claims to Have Destroyed Over 90% of Syria’s Air Defences

Jerusalem, December 13:

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it has significantly weakened Syria’s air defence systems, claiming to have destroyed more than 90% of its identified surface-to-air missile systems.

Details of the Operation
The IDF stated that it has been closely assessing the situation in Syria, considering scenarios such as the potential collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s government. To prepare, the Israeli Air Force developed a detailed strike plan to neutralise Syria’s strategic military assets.

In recent days, hundreds of Israeli fighter jets and aircraft carried out coordinated attacks, targeting Syria’s most critical military resources. These included fighter jets, helicopters, missiles, drones, radars, and rockets.

Key Targets Hit
Several strategic Syrian air bases were struck during the operation:

  • T4 Airport (near northern Damascus): Suffered severe damage, with complete destruction of SU-22 and SU-24 fighter squadrons.
  • Ble Airport: Targeted alongside its fighter squadrons and an adjacent weapons storage site.
  • Homs Region: A key manufacturing and storage facility for Syria’s Scud missile program was also destroyed.

Goal of the Strikes
According to the IDF, the strikes aimed to prevent Syria’s strategic weapons from falling into the hands of terrorist groups and to degrade its advanced military capabilities amid growing tensions in the region. The IDF emphasized that within 48 hours, it had neutralized most of Syria’s critical weapon stockpiles.

This operation marks a significant escalation in Israel’s ongoing efforts to counter threats from Syria’s military infrastructure.
